VIII. other will often feign being slow when not on the job and play dumb to get information, also acts cheerier and more friendly than he would in front of his gang.
0IX. overall personality - mykolas is nothing if not an affable man. outside of his work he has a friendly, easygoing personality, if a little bit on the sly side and with a tendency towards prankster activity. it isn’t difficult to make him smile, and meeting new people always tends to please him. when it comes to his work, though, he turns deadly serious and a bit quieter. though the mask already facilitates this, his sense of humor tends to disappear when he’s in front of his gang, and what was once a simply sly demeanor becomes a tricky, cunning attitude.
- aside from this two-faced nature and trickster attitude, mykolas tends to be inwardly quite an adventure-seeking and restless man. he can be patient whenever he wants to, but something within him seems to crave challenge and a fight every now and then. this helps facilitate his ambitious side and drive him to constantly grow his gang in numbers, crush his enemies, and fight back against the russian gangs whenever he can. this unbridled desire has led to something of a problem; his ethical limits are rather fragile when it comes down to it, and he wouldn’t be afraid to make severe allowances if it meant achieving his goals.
0X. affiliation lithuania, fantomai lietuva.
0XI. position leader
- mykolas is a reasonable and intelligent leader, and very kind to the men who remain obedient and loyal to him. firmly believing in the idea of “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” mykolas tries to solve problems before they become true obstacles—both in terms of outer and inner threats. he has no patience for disloyalty or unnecessary action, and has been known from time to time to “make examples” of those who betray the gang or go too far on a mission. as such, he runs a tight ship, but he runs it very well.

0VI. overall history - when mykolas was conceived, his mother had been a young and very naïve woman. the man she had created a life with already had a wife back in russia, and later went on to have another child with that woman, then another woman after that when his wife died in childbirth. his mother was left alone in lithuania, pregnant and poor, with very few options open to her. she would often give in to anyone who would offer them food for the night. still, she raised her child as best she could, and her son mykolas loved her with all his heart. despite their hardships, she never married again, and he never gained any known siblings from her.
- as a very young child, mykolas used to visit the old man down the street from where he lived. this older fellow had assisted his mother in various ways since his birth, and was like something of a surrogate grandfather to the boy. he used to play various musical records on an old phonograph machine and let mykolas listen to his hearts content as he would munch on a loaf of fresh-baked bread from the old man’s daughter’s bakery. despite an innate talent he already possessed, the old man was able to teach mykolas many things about music and singing, and helped the boy foster a deep-seated love for it that would continue all his life. he and the old man would sing together to the old crooner songs, and his mother would dance with him to the happier tunes whenever she had enough time and energy to do so. unfortunately, the old man later passed away, and it was the first time mykolas was truly faced with death and loss.
- though he didn’t learn this until he was older, mykolas’s mother was a bulimic. she would often ask him if he considered her fat, and would purge herself to near-skeletal degrees sometimes. once he got older he was able to force her to stop purging and take better care of herself, which did lead to better health for her for many years. sadly, when he was in his early twenties, his mother passed away from an incurable illness. every now and then he still goes and visits around her grave, if just to have her company with him again.
- rewind. during his earlier school days, mykolas mostly kept to himself and stayed out of trouble, though this of course didn’t last for too long. once he began getting older, he cultivated friendships with like-minded children, though it only took him a short time to realize and embrace the fact he was falling into what many parents would call the “wrong crowd.” it began with the simple rule-breaking bad-boy behavior that most male teens engage in, but it escalated fairly quickly into full-blown gang activity within a year or two. upon seeing how these gangs acted—the ragtag, unfocused, rough-and-tumble sorts of people—he decided to make a better and more organized gang than any of them. being a man of his word, mykolas left high school and began to work towards his goal, fresh with the street knowledge his early initiation had given him.
- he fought tooth and nail to get his gang (fantomai lietuva—phantoms of lithuania, after his favorite play) off the ground. once enough people had been garnered to his side, he began to establish small and spread-out territories, to ensure that if any one group was eliminated, more would still remain. when his ability to grow had reached its limit by that method, he began to challenge the leaders of other local gangs to one-on-one fights, starting with the weaker ones to ensure victory. he always fought the leaders in front of a group of both his and his opponent’s men, and though he didn’t always play fair, the victory always wound up in his hands, most often through the death or permanent disablement of his enemy. after a battle like one of these, he would absorb the members of that gang into his own and take care of any who tried to fight back. (this was sometimes simply killing them, but more often some form of coercion or bribery.)
- fast forward. just one year later, mykolas was at the top of the heap in the small country of lithuania. this was beginning to draw attention on him from other international gangs, in particular a certain russian gang called the palets kukolʹnyĭ mafiya. they offered a lucrative agreement of mutial collaboration and trade between them, which had such potential for money that mykolas would have been a fool to turn it down. naturally, he agreed after making a few conditions. although he found the leader of the finger puppets, geni ivanov, to be a good and decent man, the leader’s friend was entirely suspicious of mykolas and never seemed to trust him. this amused mykolas to no end, and he would always find subtle ways of hinting at dark intentions to raise the hairs on the back of the man’s neck.
- as it turned out, geni’s friend wasn’t far off of the mark. after establishing a few cells within the major cities of russia, mykolas began to fall back on a familiar pattern by killing off the members of other gangs and integrating its members into the fantomai lietuva. geni ordered him to stop doing this at once, but mykolas ignored this warning and continued to grow his power in the ussr. this broke the agreement between the two gangs, and within weeks the groups were killing each other in an all-out war that continues to this day.
